Details: Colivelin is a hybrid peptide which mediates neuroprotection against Alzheimer's disease (AD)-relevant insults. It is composed of activity-dependent neurotrophic factor (ADNF) C-terminally fused to AGA(C8R)HNG17, a potent humanin derivative. Colivelin completely suppressed death induced by overexpressing familial AD-causative genes and amyloid β-protein (1-43) (H-1586) at a concentration of 100 fM. Intraperitoneally administered peptide suppressed memory impairment caused by the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, 3-quinuclidinyl benzylate, indicating that a substantial portion of intraperitoneally administered colivelin passes through the blood brain barrier.
